Years ago when i was still in middle school i remember i once read this angsty one-shot bl manga- i cant really remember if the story was part of a book of other stories with different couples or something, but what i remember clearly is that the story was very short, one or two chapters long it i’m not mistaken.
This is how i remember the story (more or less):
It tells about Guy A who worked at a construction (?) site, he was a quite guy and a bit of a loner- he didnt really speak to others. He always ate lunch alone away from everyone else, and he always brought a home made bento. One day theres this guy B from his workplace that noticed him eating his bento alone, and he approached him drooling, saying that his bento looked delicious and he was very hungry etc. Guy A shared his bento with him and Guy B was shocked at how delicious the cooking was. He asked if his girlfriend or mother made him that, and was surprised to know that Guy A cooked the bento himself. Guy A was a touched and very happy (inside) to know that Guy B liked his cooking so much, so he offered to cook him a bento for lunch everyday. Guy B was reluctant at first but he accepted happily in the end.
Ever since then the two of them always ate lunch together and grew closer as friends, and just when Guy A started to have feelings for Guy B, one day Guy B told him that he didn’t need to cook him bento anymore since his girlfriend could do it for him, (so turns out Guy B had a girlfriend all this time and the reason why Guy B didn’t bring bento for some time was bc his girlfriend was away or something i cant remember) but he was still very thankful for what Guy A did for him. Guy A was surprised and heartbroken to know Guy B had a girlfriend, but he hid his feelings anyway and pretended that he was glad and happy Guy B enjoyed his cooking. (He came home crying that night looking at the bento he had prepared for him hdjsdjsjs IT WAS VERY PAINFUL)
Long story short- Guy B was getting married to his girlfriend and he asked Guy A to be the one to give a speech at his wedding, Guy A couldnt say no, so he accepted. The wedding day came and while Guy B was still in the fitting room, one of his friends and his girlfriend came in to show her dress and they talked bla bla and there was a point where the friend asked why Guy B chose Guy A to be the one to give the speech, Guy B said bc he was a good friend of his and he really liked him and respected him very much. The friend made an uncomfortable face and said “Dont you know he’s gay?” so basically he was telling him after that the reason why Guy A didnt have any friends at work was bc the guys found out about a rumor of him confessing to another guy while he was still in school and thats why everyone was avoiding him. Basically the friend was shit talking him and thats when Guy B snapped at him and got angry. He defended him and talked about how sexuality doesnt matter and how kind Guy A was to the point that his girlfriend got annoyed by it. (THAT BICTH ISTG)
In the end, while watching Guy A gave the speech, Guy B looked at him painfully, he finally realized why Guy A had always had this sort of fake-sad smile on his face. Guy B felt something in his heart but couldnt really explain what it is, all he knew that he really cared about his friend very much. (So idk if the author is trying to imply that Guy B had some sort of small affection towards Guy A at the end, but who cares they still didnt get together anyway and my heart is shattered to pieces huhu)
